And it does a great job of picking up pet hair and cat litter from hardwood floors and carpets with low pile.

1. Roomba j7+ from iRobot

The iRobot Roomba j7+ robot vacuum is one of our most intelligent robots. It is extremely easy to use and set up. It can be controlled by voice commands using Alexa, Google Assistant or Nest Learning Thermostat. The iRobot app makes it simple to control the model, set up scheduling and other settings.

Unlike other robots which can take hours to map a home, the iRobot j7+ uses iRobot OS and PrecisionVision Navigation technology to detect obstacles such as charging cords, pet waste and even unintentional socks so that they don't hinder cleaning. It also features a cliff sensor that can help it navigate steps and prevent falling down the stairs.

It can recognize different types of flooring and adjust the brush height accordingly. The iRobot J7+ can take debris and transfer it to the Clean Base Automatic Dirt Disposal and dump it into a dustbin that can hold two full bags. You can empty the bin yourself or hire iRobot Home Service to do it for you for an additional fee.

The iRobot J7+ is equipped with a 57oz 1.7 cubic liter dust bin and a 14oz / 0.4 liter battery. Both are easily replaceable. It has a sleek design that is lighter than some other models. It looks great in a neat living room. The HEPA filter and rubber brushes should be replaced at least every 2 months. These are the only ongoing expenses you'll have to pay for this model.

2. Shark IQ XL

Shark's IQ Robot is among the few self-emptying vacuums which don't require the user to empty the dust bin. After it has completed a cleaning cycle, the robot will head back to its base station to automatically collect debris and dump it into a large container built inside the dock. This process takes only minutes and could save you 30 times the cost of emptying the dirt container. The IQ Robot is fast and efficient, and is rarely stuck. It also has an app that lets you to set up schedules. You can also control it using your voice and use physical boundary marker strips to keep it out of certain areas.

Its utilitarian, all-black style appears more robotic than traditional vacuums. It doesn't win any beauty awards, but it's robust and feels solid. It doesn't require much assembly out-of-the-box, requiring only that you snap in the two side brushes. The app lets you set up cleaning schedules, see the robot vacuum with self empty's remaining battery life and receive notifications via push. You can also alter the power mode and assign the vacuum to specific rooms.

The IQ Robot offers three power modes: Eco, Normal and the default Normal. The maximum mode produces the most suction but will drain its battery the fastest.

The Shark IQ is an excellent self-emptying vacuum that can remove large amounts of pet hair from unfinished floors and does a fair job on low-pile carpet. It's less expensive than the iRobot Roomba j7+ and has fewer components that require regular maintenance or replacement, which results in lower costs for recurring maintenance. However, the Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum is a better option for most uses. It is able to maneuver around obstacles, performs better on flooring with high piles, and charges quicker.

3. Samsung Jet Bot+

Samsung may be a latecomer to the robotic vacuum market but Jet Bot+ is a attractive product. The primary selling point is the self-emptying base which helps reduce dust exposure for those suffering from allergies. The 2.5L bin can also be empty via an app, which is useful for those who like to plan their cleaning.

Apart from the self-emptying base the Samsung comes with a unique single edge brush that sweeps debris to the roller and an inbuilt power filter that captures smaller particles and locks them away. Its LiDAR can detect furniture and tight corners and helps it overcome obstacles.

Another interesting characteristic is the ability to recognize objects. It can detect when it encounters an item it isn't familiar with and offer an idea of what it might be (it often guesses towels, socks or cables, which isn't great). Those with children should find this particularly useful, since the Jet Bot+ will go around toys and often stop other robots from moving.

The robovac has impressive battery life and can clean most of our test rooms on one charge, although it can end up running out of power midway through a job. It is quick to return to the dock for a recharge and is able to be programmed to return at a certain time. It also has built-in Bixby, Samsung's voice assistant, so you can utilize your smartphone to switch on and off its cleaning mode. The Jet Bot+ SmartThings App is well-documented and easy to use. The app lets you build an interactive map, label rooms and zones that are not allowed to enter, create live views and more.

4. ECOVACS DEEBOT N10 PLUS: Robot Vacuum & Mop X2 Omni

The X2 Omni is one of the most advanced robot vacuums and mopping machines available. Its sleek, square design does not only enhance its corner and edge cleaning abilities It also has a built-in camera that monitors your home from afar (via the app or your smart device).

The dual laser navigation system is the most important feature that makes the X2 Omni stand out from other self-emptying robot vacuums. It allows the robot to navigate more efficiently. This technology is designed to enable the robot to see the obstacles in your home that are usually covered by furniture, pet toys, or electrical cords. This is particularly beneficial for households with active pets, as the Omni's X2 Omni can easily avoid bumping into furry family members or other obstructions while being able to thoroughly clean your floors.

The X2 Omni has upgraded 3D mapping capabilities and navigation that allow the robot to locate specific areas in your home and clean them with a simple swipe of the app. This capability can be incredibly beneficial for homeowners who want their Deebot to focus on particular areas that are prone to dirt in the kitchen or living room, like under the table or on the sofa.

As a bonus, the X2 Omni has an integrated voice assistant, allowing you to use your favorite Alexa or Google Assistant to activate it and manage its functions. The Yiko 2.0 voice assistant that is built into the robot is able to further enhance your hands-free operation. This is particularly helpful for those who have children or pets at home, who could knock the remote control over or block your path when using the hands-free cleaning.

5. Eufy G20

The G20 has a number features that aren't found in robot vacuums in this price range. For instance, it has an additional brush that pushes debris into the direction of the main brushroll whenever it comes in contact with it. It also has mopping features that use an appropriate amount of water to leave your floors dry and clean. It is impossible to control the amount of power is utilized to mop. A variety of wiping strengths would have been helpful for this, as you'll need more or less water on tiles than on wood.

The cleaning capabilities of this robot is excellent on floors with no floor. It picked up small materials like rice with ease and was able to deal with heavier debris, such as cereal, on this type of surface too. It had a tough time with the most difficult test that we have, the test for flour spillage. It managed to gather 45g of flour but there was still visible remnants that was left on the floor.

The navigation is also somewhat shaky. It bumped into furniture all the time, with a few items of furniture getting slightly scratched. It does, robotvacuummops at a minimum, have an absorbing bumper that absorbs the impact. It also has the ability to cross over thresholds of high intensity.

The G20 is a relatively quiet machine. We measured its decibel levels at 65db. This is similar to the noise produced by a typical air conditioning unit. If you're in search of a quiet robot vacuum, this is worth checking out. One thing that the G20 lacks that many of its rivals offer, though it has a map-making function. It's impossible to avoid certain rooms when they're cluttered.
