It did a great job cleaning up pet hair, Cheerios and kitty litter on hardwood floors.

1. iRobot Roomba i4+ EVO: Ultimate Self-Emptying Robot Vacuum Roomba s9+

The s9+ robot vacuum is one of the best we've ever tested to clean hard floors and carpets. It has some of the strongest suction of any robot cleaner available and is a great choice for eliminating pet hair. It can also be programmed to make multiple passes or alter the level of suction depending on the size of the room, which is something we haven't seen on other models. The app lets you alter the way it operates and decide when it begins working, so that you can be within the room while it's whirring away.

Smart mapping creates a detailed home map to help the S9+ navigate efficiently and create routes. It's also self-emptying, meaning it doesn't require any intervention on your part while cleaning and it can return to its base and recharge in mid-clean (though you may have to hear it be a rumbling sound back to its dock once it gets settled the sound, which sounds like the sound of a jet engine taking off). The s9+ was able maneuver around obstacles such as tables and power cables without any issue. It never lost charge and did not get stuck. However, it doesn't have the hazard avoidance capability that is available in newer models. It can also become entangled in rug tassels and other obstacles that are difficult to see.

In contrast to most circular robots the s9+ has a flat front and has an angled front that lets it access corners better than round models. It is also quieter than our previous iRobot robot and more compact than the Neato Botvac D7. Its price tag isn't expensive, but it's an excellent value for the price given how well it performs and the fact that you don't have to worry about cleaning an unclean bin following the use. Plus, it's often offered for sale during Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Amazon Prime Day.

2. Roomba j7+ from iRobot

The j7+ robot vacuum is one of the most intelligent vacuum cleaners available on the market. It is equipped with iRobot Genius Technology, which allows it to sense obstacles and move around them. This means you do not have to be concerned about the robot striking furniture or walls. It slows down as it approaches an item to gently scrub the edges. This is particularly beneficial for pets with small sizes who leave messes.

Another excellent aspect of the j7+ is that it can mop and vacuum with the help of a special mopsitter. If it senses that you are on a floor that needs to be cleaned, it shifts to its normal cleaning mode and deploys an arm with an edging. It sweeps the floor with a light-touch that left my floors looking and feeling like they'd been thoroughly cleaned.

The J7+ recharges itself once it is done mopping. It then returns to where it left off and resumes its cleaning. It usually runs for around 85 minutes, or more or less, in my house before returning to the dock for a recharge. That's less than the s9+, however it's nonetheless impressive for a device that does both vacuuming as well as mopping.

As with other iRobot cleaners, the j7+ spots obstacles in its path and avoids them. It also has what iRobot refers to as Cliff Detect Technology, which keeps it from falling down stairs. It's a great security feature for families with children.

The j7+'s bin onboard is relatively small, so you will need return it to the dock to empty it often in the event that your home is big. However, the j7+ is incredibly simple to store. The Clean Base comes with a charging dock as well as an external dustbin, and an internal bin where the j7+ is able to deposit dirt.

3. Shark iQ

This 2-in-1 robot vacuums carpets and hard surfaces simultaneously. Matrix Clean Navigation is also included, which utilizes grids to cover the entire home. The vacuum empties itself after every run and you can check its current battery's life and condition by looking at two lights at the top. To empty the dirt receptacle just push a button that removes the bin. It can hold up to a full week's worth trash and is simple to empty from anywhere in the home.

Despite its impressive performance on unfinished floors, this model has some shortcomings on low-pile carpet and has a difficult time removing bulky debris as its dirt compartment gets full. However, it is sturdily constructed and has a long battery life, which you can extend with the eco-friendly 'Eco' mode.

The Shark IQ is compatible both with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant so you can control it using your voice. The app lets you identify your robot (mine is Sharky Shark), remotely enable and schedule its runs and track your cleaning history, as well as any errors you may have received. You can even make an outline of your home and set no-go zones.

The Shark iQ costs more than the iRobot Roomba j7+ but it has superior mapping and app features and also superior performance on all surfaces. It also charges faster and gets caught in rug tassels less often, which lowers the amount of time it takes to pay. However, this model is unable to be kept away from areas that contain pet bowls or furniture and you'll need physical boundary strips to keep it out of certain objects.

4. iRobot Roomba 694"

With an elegant, premium design that is a perfect match for your home's decor the Roomba 694 is an excellent robot vacuum for those who need an easy-to-use set it and forget it. It can learn your cleaning habits and make a custom schedule. It also works with Google Assistant and Alexa voice assistants so that you can begin cleaning by speaking. It uses a full suite of sensors to navigate the obstacles in your home. A smart bumper cushioned the impact when it bumps against furniture legs or walls. Four "cliff" sensors on the side and front let it know if it's close to an edge, such as stairs or a balcony and it's able to back away.

This model is a great option in the robot vacuums under $300 range. It comes with a three-stage cleaning system, as well as two multi-surface brushes to remove dirt from carpeted and hard floors and an edge-sweeping tool will take care of edges and corners. The robot vacuum also comes with many features that make it easier to use, including Dirt Detect, which is a system that automatically spends more time in heavily-soiled areas. It can be programmed to clean at specified intervals, and it also comes with an app for remote control.

The iRobot Roomba 694 isn't as technologically advanced as the i7, which can self-empty its own trash compartment, and it doesn't have a mapping system, nor the ability to create virtual boundary markers. It's still a bit more robust and has lower recurring costs than the less expensive RoboVac G30, has a larger dust bin, charges faster, and can navigate around obstacles such as electrical cords better, and performs better on bare floors and low-pile carpet than the iRobot Roomba 614.

5. Eufy 11s

The Eufy 11s is a compact, attractive robot vacuum that provides good value for its price. It has a large dirt bin and can run for extended periods of time, and is excellent at sucking up pet hair. However, it's difficult to maintain and has some issues with navigation. It doesn't come with voice control or a companion app, but has a simple to use remote. It doesn't even send you a notification when the dust box is full, so you'll have to check it often.

The eufy has many advantages over the bObsweep Bob Pro, but in certain areas it's not as efficient as the iRobot Roomba 694. The iRobot Roomba 694 is much better constructed, has fewer components to maintain, a HEPA-filter, lasts longer with one charge, and provides superior cleaning performance for floors with no floor as well as high-pile and low-pile. It also comes with a more advanced navigation system that can navigate around obstacles, and has more advanced automation features, such as boundary stripes.

The iRobot Roomba 900 Series is an ideal choice for the majority of users, even though the eufy still makes an excellent choice. The iRobot is better-built, easier to maintain, has a bigger dustbin, and offers superior performance on all surface types. It is also quicker to recharge and has a longer battery life.

The eufy is also superior to the ILIFE A4s, but it's not as good as a high-end robot like the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra. The iRobot is built better, has a more robust design, a larger dustbin and has fewer ongoing costs. It also has a more advanced automation capability like boundary stripes and a navigation algorithm that is smarter. The iRobot is also more effective in collecting pet hair and is easier to maintain than eufy.
