What to Look For in a Double pram Stroller Travel Buggy

A side-by-side double that has an incredibly compact footprint (for narrow doorways and public transport). Add seats or carrycots (with adaptors), to increase the frame's capacity for weight for children weighing up to 50lbs.

Budget double with back and front suspension for uneven surfaces. Large storage basket, padded handlebars, and large storage basket.

Size

In general double pushchairs are larger than single models - especially when they're side-by-side buggies, like the Kolcraft Geo 3 and UPPAbaby Vista 2. The good thing is that this extra width allows them to carry heavier kids without straining the chassis. They also have other key features that make them stand out, including generously-sized pop-out canopies with SPF 50 and peekaboo windows; swivel lock front wheels that help navigate tight spots such as shopping aisles; a one-parent cup holder and a smart fold mechanism that can be operated one-handed; and 10-inch back wheels that aren't designed for rough terrain but can manage city streets and theme parks fairly well.

In terms of price tags these kinds of lightweight buggies, which are side-by-side, are surprisingly affordable.

Weight

The heavier a double buggy is the more easy it will be to move and lift. The Joie Evalite Duo, which is the most lightweight of our Lab tests, is a great option if weight is an issue. It still has plenty of features including a large pop-out canopy with SPF50 and peekaboo window as well as a quick-release folding mechanism that can be stowed flat in a matter of seconds and a four-wheel suspension for rough terrain and a swivel wheels on the front that makes it easy to navigate narrow aisles in supermarkets and shops. It's also affordable at just over PS1,000. It can also carry twins or a baby and toddler with the purchase of an additional'sidepack'.

Flexibility

A double umbrella stroller buggy is an excellent option for parents with twins or even a toddler and a baby. Buggies with narrow tandems are ideal for fitting through tight spaces, while side-by-side models keep your children accounted for and help you to keep an eye on them as you travel around the supermarket or the park. There are a variety of seat configurations so you can adjust them as your child grows. Some even allow you to add the option of a car seat or ride-on board.

The Joie Evalite Duo is a great example. It can be used to hold two seats, or even a car-seat. The adaptors allow you to convert from a single seat to a double in just minutes. It also comes with a large pop-out UPF 50+ canopy sunshade, adjustable leg rests and peekaboo windows on both seats as well as an easy standing fold that is quick and easy to do with just one hand; and a high-quality suspension that can take care of rough terrain.

Tri-fold buggies like the iCandy Peach are another versatile option. They are great to navigate narrow doors and aisles. They also can easily accommodate twins and a big kid by adding UPPAbaby's"PiggyBack" board (which is sold separately). They come with a large basket and come with all the extras you might require, such as rain covers and liners.

Tandem buggies typically have your children seated together, which makes them easier to push and more robust on uneven surfaces however they can be difficult to maneuver up and down kerbs. They typically have a bigger footprint than a single-seater pushchair and can be a bit long to get through doors.

Comfort

This is one of the most comfortable, lightweight doubles we've examined. It features stadium-style seating on both seats, so your children can take in the view. It also has a large UPF 50+ canopy with a windows that peek out, an upholstered toddler seat with an RumbleSeat with built-in, adjustable foot and leg rests and an integrated cup holder for one parent. Testers are awestruck by the way the seats recline by pushing the levers under each seat, and also say that the straps are easy to secure and remove with just one hand. It's also simple to fold, thanks to a twist mechanism on the handle, making it as easy as is possible and also stores with the backrest up to make it easy to access.

The spacious basket and the soft suspension make it suitable for kerbs, as as in the city. It is also very reasonably priced. BabyGearLab recommends this for children up to the age of six.
