If you're using public transport or often traveling by car, a lightweight compact stroller is a good option. These strollers are simple to fold and store, and less likely to be damaged by baggage handlers.

Lightweight

The most compact pushchairs are lightweight to carry, and even more importantly, simple to fold. They are usually simple to fold with just one hand and take up less room when folded than large buggies. They're a great option when you don't have lots of space in your home, or if you're concerned about space limitations when traveling.

Some also have a very small footprint when closed which makes it easier to maneuver through tight spaces. They are a good option if you live in an apartment or simply want something light and lightweight for day-to-day walking. They can be uncomfortable for older children who have to extend their legs to move around.

There are a range of different fold types on the market and some are truly one-handed and pushchairsandprams others requiring a little more effort or two hands to complete. Some are designed to be as compact as they can be, which means they can be tucked away in the cabin baggage allowances on many flights or be carried on your back with a strap or handle.

For a light pushchair, our favorite is the Silver Cross Dune. The Silver Cross Dune is a compact pushchair that offers all the thoughtful features and smart design that you would expect from a brand with a long history. It also features an easy-to-use fold, and like the Contours Itsy, it comes with the complete set. It's a great option for parents who intend to travel a lot with their child and can be tucked away in most car boots and small trunk spaces.

Another good alternative is the Cybex Mios, which straddles both categories of pushchair as a fully-functional travel system with mobility and a small fold. It can be used in parent-facing mode from birth, and changed to world-facing as your child gets older. It also comes with a decent recline feature that's suitable for napping. It's not as compact as the Libelle, but it comes in smaller dimensions and is more comfortable to use on flat surfaces. It's not ideal for rough terrain, but. Another benefit is a very affordable price tag and excellent durability tests.

Easy to store

The Joie Pact Pro is the ideal travel stroller pushchairs, folding into a size that can fit into an overhead luggage compartment, and is so light that you'll barely notice it in your car boot. It's also a great day-today stroller, and our test-driver Hollie found it easy to steer, even while carrying her toddler. She was impressed by the adjustable handle and lockable wheels, however, she noted that it's not the most comfortable seat. She also likes the fact that you can add additional features like a reversible and washable seat cover, rain cover and the foot muff.

The Babyzen YoYO fold pushchair is another compact folding stroller. It's not as streamlined as the Cybex Libelle but it's still a great product that is easy to slide into trunks and car boot. It also gives more options for newborns than other travel buggies, with the option of adding the bassinet or cot for newborns, plus a bespoke ride-on board for older kids and a double seat adapter.

It isn't the most compact buggy for driving on rough or uneven terrain, and its small wheels don't work as well as the other models we've tried. It is still a very mobile pushchair, and the YOYO is a shrewd choice for navigating narrow aisles and slippery pathways. It's an excellent choice for a vacation or city break.

The Cosatto Bee6 is a compact traveler that has numerous features for a very low price. It can be folded down to the size of a large backpack and weighs just 6kg, so it's an ideal travel buggy to transport on trains and planes. It's also easy to steer, and our MFM test rider Matt found it to be enjoyable to steer, even when a heavy toddler was riding along. The hood is also a plus, as it can be raised to provide shade and protection from sun and rain. It's perfect for naps. The only drawback is that there's no storage under the seat, and you have to carry or delicately hang your bag over the handlebars (against the advice of a professional!). You can also purchase a separately sold changing bag holder to make it a great buggy for holidays.

Easy to Manoeuvre

Wheels on compact pushchairs may appear small, but they're usually quite efficient at maneuvering narrow aisles and rough terrain. The Micralite is a prime example, despite having small wheels, it can handle rough roads with ease and turns swiftly on narrow streets, and manages to tackle some light gravel without much difficulty. It also has a smooth steering system that is a breeze to steer with one hand. It folds down into an elegant and compact package that fits snugly inside the carrying case.

Most compact pushchairs were made for toddlers or older children. However increasing numbers of them have a lie-flat option or the option of adding a carrycot (or car seat) so that they can be used from birth. These innovative concertina or Z-fold buggies are typically lightweight at around 6-8kg and are cabin-approved by a wide range of airlines, making them perfect for travel. MFM Editor Gemma has used it on numerous occasions and says it's incredibly easy to use and take away.

If you're looking for a compact folding option, then the YOYO is a great choice. It was the first buggy to feature this feature. It's still a preferred choice among parents, who prefer it over its competitors due to its unique design and superior function. It's a great option for frequent travelers, especially when they want to stay clear of the frustration of waiting in line at baggage pickup by bringing their stroller with them.

The YOYO also comes in an extremely compact size, which can be stuffed into the bag with ease and even enough space. It's a great choice for frequent travelers, especially those who need to carry many things in their suitcase. Plus it's incredibly adaptable - you can purchase a range of optional accessories for it, including a newborn bassinet, bespoke ride-on boards and a twin travel bundle to turn it into a tandem. You can also purchase a rain cover and hood for added peace of mind.

Comfortable

Parents who want a light compact pushchair that's simple to use and fits into the trunk of their car, our reviewer, Hollie, recommends this Silver Cross model. Its maneuverability and reclined seat are among the best in our tests. It also boasts a useful tray for parents as well as a storage basket that fits a small backpack, plus it has great sun cover options (including the hood) and padded straps that help your child to feel comfortable.

Some compact strollers fold so small that they are suitable for use in air travel. This makes them ideal if you travel often or have a limited space in your car boot. They're usually light so they're easy for you to carry. They can also be used as an air travel system, when you choose a model that has a lie-flat seating option or a newborn pushchair 'pod'.

One of the most important things to consider when choosing a travel buggy is that not all models are created to be the same. Certain brands claim that their compact-fold pushchairs can be folded with one hand, whereas others require more involvement or two hands to work out how to get it folded. Make sure the seat reclines. Some are completely flat, while others only have some slight recline. This might be fine for toddlers, but not for younger children.

Make sure that the model you select is appropriate for your travel plans. For instance when you're going to a hot destination then you should choose a model with a mesh fabric that is vented to keep your child cool. If you're heading somewhere that's windy or rainy, you should make sure that the pushchair is equipped with a cover designed for it. The covers that come with generic ones won't fit and could let water in.
