The iRobot Roomba 980 is the latest in the line of top-of-the-line robot vacuum cleaners that are an essential part in any modern home. This model is incredibly powerful suction and a HEPA filter that'll assist anyone suffering from allergies. Additionally it comes with a powerful battery that can clean up to two hours and it will return to its dock once its bin is full.

This technology is very effective at navigating around toys left on the floor or furniture legs sticking out underneath objects. It also has a camera sensor that snaps the Roomba back to its original position when it starts to drift from its actual location.

iRobot has also introduced a new set of rollers beneath the Roomba's bottom that do not have bristles, and thus tend to be more resistant to tangles than earlier models. They're also a bit taller than older rollers and can better fit under beds and couches with low sides, and they're designed to let this model move more easily across a variety of floor types.

The Roomba 980 stands out from other high-end models by its brand new dirt detection feature that makes use of cameras to detect dirt embedded. This is a nice improvement over the previous version, that relied on the sensor-driven pseudorandom cover method to bounce around a room and clean everything at least three times from different angles.

In our tests of its performance, the Roomba 980 did well on both hard flooring and carpets. It scored very well on low-pile carpet and also on mid-pile. It did a good job getting rid of pet hair, but had a difficult time with the thick and long pet hair that was stuck together.

The Roomba 980 is still one of the most efficient robots we've reviewed despite the minor drawbacks. It's also less expensive than other top-of-the-line models. It still has a lot of features we'd expect to see in a flagship model, but it doesn't have all the fancy app-enabled functions or smart home integration that are found in other top models.

The iRobot Roomba is simple to set up and start up and running immediately. After taking the yellow bin insert and pull tab from the undercarriage, it is simply connected to an outlet on the wall or to its Home Base docking stations, press the "Clean button" and let it work. It will automatically return to its dock when the battery runs out or it's stuffed with debris, and it has indicators at the top of the device to indicate that its bin is full, it requires recharging or if its Wi-Fi signal is lost.
