It is crucial that mechanics and locksmiths stay up-to-date on the latest technology in automotive. This includes key duplication and programming. This will allow them to tackle complex issues like bmw key replacement key fob programming.

Start by inserting your working key into the ignition and then turning the key to position 1. The dash and accessory lights should come on.

What is EEPROM?

The EEPROM chip is a nonvolatile memory that can be erased or reprogrammed. It can be used to store many things, like serial numbers and unique information in nearly every device connected to Ethernet. It is the chip found in printers and charge cards, and even blood sugar monitors. It is able to store information that controls the operation of microcontrollers as well as a method to recover from power-on resets.

The fundamental EEPROM chip is comprised of two field effect transistors. The floating gate is on one side, while the control gate is on the other. When the device is powered by electrons, they are released from the gate and can be trapped in either one or zero state depending on how much voltage is applied. This transistor state can be used to read the EEPROM.

When the EEPROM is in the "0" state it is in no use. When the EEPROM is in the "1" state it has a value of 1. In between these states, no information is stored, however it can still be written. EEPROMs can be erased using a short time of voltage applied to the gate.

The EEPROM is advantageous because it can be erased and written to with no external circuitry. This makes it very useful in systems where memory needs to be regularly updated, such as remote keyless microcontrollers in systems. There are other types of memory chips which have similar functionality but are better suited to long-term storage.

Modern flash memory chips are a common feature in digital cameras and computers. They are commonly used to store multimedia files for both long-term and short-term storage and retrieval. However they aren't EEPROMs and their fundamental functions differ from the ones of true EEPROMs. They are still used, however, because of their versatility and the ability to store a minimal amount of data in a small space.

What is OBDII?

In the past the majority of automobile manufacturers had their own systems to diagnose problems with their vehicles. In 1996, the government ordered that all vehicles have a common system to read diagnostic codes. This new system called OBD-II utilizes the same diagnostic code and port system for all makes and models that are sold in the US. This means that any mechanic can easily diagnose a problem in your vehicle by plugging it into the specific tool.

The OBD-II detects various errors within the engine and other parts using a standard diagnostic plug. The information is saved in the computer of the car to be later analysed. The system is able to detect and repair faults prior to creating significant damage. Technicians can connect to the OBD-II port using a scan tool, which will display all error codes and show what part of the system they came from.

Scanners have a greater computing capacity than code-readers and can read a larger variety of error codes. They can also show live data graphs and save data to be later analyzed. Some tools can even perform advanced functions like programming the ECU and supplying performance-enhancing options. These high-end tools are usually used by professional automotive technicians and are more expensive than standard code scanners.

When you connect a scan tool to an OBD-II connector, it will detect the protocol and communicate with the vehicle by using the appropriate pins. There are many protocols. The most popular are SAE J1850 (KWP2000) that is used by Ford and some GM vehicles, ISO 14230-4, used in various European and Asian vehicles, and CAN. Some scan tools tell you exactly what the code is referring to. Others will simply give you the code, and you'll have to conduct some research on the internet to figure out what it means.

What is CAS Unit?

The CAS unit is an BMW module that controls the car's antitheft mechanism. The system works by reading a coded signal from the key fob and then verifying it using the CAS module. If the signal is valid it is then the CAS module sends an enable signal to the engine control unit. If not, the engine won't start.

BMW CAS module failures could cause a number of symptoms including key fob problems, central locking, alarm activation and dashboard warning lights. If you experience any of these symptoms, make sure you have the CAS Module checked immediately by a professional.

The CAS system makes use of the BMW ICOM VCDS to communicate with the engine and other systems in the vehicle. The VCDS is connected to the CAS by an extra cable that has a DIN connector at the end. The VCDS can perform a variety of functions, like showing error codes or altering the timing of the ignition. It also has a variety of security features that protect the vehicle from theft.

In addition to the ICOM VCDS, BMW vehicles are equipped with a CAS module that is integrated into the key. The CAS module doesn't require batteries and is powered by the ignition coil. A transponder chip is embedded in the key to send the coded signal to the CAS module. This signal is sent through an antenna loop (coil) at the ignition lock.

The CAS state logic is implemented in the CasSystem class. This class has to be installed on every instrument that needs to receive data. The creation of multiple instances of this class could result in undesirable behavior. In addition to providing information on state, the CasSystem class also manages the display of alert messages. In order to do this it creates a cas_activate_alert topic that requires event data in the form of an object that has the key and priority properties. The topic specifies the ID and optionally the suffix of the alert you wish to activate, as well as the priority level. The CasSystem will issue an alert message on the cas_alert_displayed topic and the hidden topic (defined by CasEvents). It will also subscribe to the cas_master_warning_active and cas_master_caution_active topics to consume their statuses.

How do I program a BMW key

BMW offers drivers in the Murrieta area with keyless entry, a convenient feature that allows you to lock and unlock your car without the need for a physical key. This keyless entry system is only activated once the key fob is programmed to the car. You'll need to follow a couple of simple steps.

This process differs slightly depending on whether you're looking to connect a new key fob to your existing lost bmw key or you are beginning from scratch and don't have a functioning key. The first step is to get the working key fob and the ones you wish to program inside of your vehicle, making sure all doors and windows are shut. Insert the working key into the ignition and turn it five times to position 1, then back. Do not start the car. Turn the key back again and remove it.

Hold the unlock button while pressing the lock button (the BMW Logo) three times in a row. Then release the unlock button and the door locks should lock and unlock automatically. Repeat this procedure for each additional key fob you want to program.
